THONET chair, cantilever with armrests • S 64 range
The cantilever chair S 32 and its armrest variant S 64 are the best-known tubular-steel classics. Marcel Breuer designed them while living in Berlin in 1928. Their versatility keeps them among the best-selling cantilever chairs to this day, as they suit uncompromisingly modern interiors just as well as a mix of styles spanning different eras. Part of the appeal of these tubular-steel icons lies in the engaging combination of the new and the tried-and-tested: bentwood with airy Vienna cane weave for seat and backrest embodies Thonet tradition, while the tubular-steel frame, revolutionary at the time, represents the present and the future. Thonet has produced both models since 1930. Thanks to their aesthetic reduction and clarity, these classics suit the most varied settings, from conference rooms and waiting areas to restaurants and homes. The range is extended by the swivel chair variants S 64 Atelier (VDR) and the bar stool S 32 VH.
The THONET S 64 cantilever chair with armrests stands on a chrome-plated tubular-steel frame and is available in five versions: with seat and back in cane weave in a bentwood frame (S 64 V), with plastic mesh upholstery (S 64 N), with upholstered seat and cane-weave back (S 64 SPV) or mesh back (S 64 SPVN), and fully upholstered (S 64 PV). The frame is available powder-coated for an additional charge, and the bentwood parts in further stain shades as well as oak, ash or walnut. The cane weave is available in natural and in DARK MELANGE.

Full upholstery: With full upholstery, the seat shell is covered all round in fabric or leather, including the back. The wood surface is then no longer visible. This gives the chair a softer, calmer and more homely look than the mirror-upholstered version.
Comfort upholstery: Comfort upholstery is a particularly elaborate upholstery construction: depending on the model, a fine fleece is additionally sewn in. This makes the upholstery feel softer to sit on and more durable at the same time, as the cover is subjected to more even loads.
