Børge Mogensen was known for his love of traditional craftsmanship and his talent for designing simple, timeless and functional furniture from wood, his preferred material. A long version of the versatile BM0488 Table Bench was originally designed in 1958 and presented as part of Mogensen's "building system" concept. The vision of the concept was to create multifunctional and durable furniture that could be adapted to changing interior needs. The BM0489 Table Bench is a reinterpretation of the original design, in which rattan has been replaced by double-woven paper cord to achieve a fresh, organic look. Carl Hansen & Søn has more than 70 years of experience working with paper cord, and it takes a skilled craftsman six hours to weave the 335-metre length of cord needed for the finished piece. The reinterpretation of Børge Mogensen's Table Bench is an elegant interplay of two natural materials – beautiful oak wood and densely woven paper cord. The BM0489 is available in a long version, BM0489L, and a short version, BM0489S.
The BM0489 is available in two sizes: the short version BM0489S at 69 × 46 cm and the long version BM0489L at 138 × 46 cm. Both are made from oiled oak, with a seat surface of natural woven paper cord. There is no choice of material or finish for this model. The same piece with double-woven rattan instead of paper cord is model number BM0488.
