B&B Italia Ray Outdoor lounge sofa 235/6 cm

Ray Outdoor collection by B&B Italia. After its great success indoors, the Ray seating by Antonio Citterio is now also available for outdoor use. The collection comprises the two versions “Natural” and “Fabric”, which differ in their weave patterns and materials.

Ray Outdoor Fabric

The Ray Outdoor Fabric collection is characterised by a weave of UV-resistant and weather-resistant polypropylene bands. These bands are available in a wide colour palette developed specifically for outdoor use. The shades range from turquoise, blue and grass green through tortora to a strong bordeaux red. The seating is available with aluminium feet as well as with a teak base frame. The collection offers sofas in two depths plus various modules such as end elements, chaise longue and armchair. A lounger on castors is available exclusively in the “Fabric” collection.

Ray Outdoor Natural

The Ray Outdoor Natural collection stands out for its rope-like weave, reminiscent of abaca, which gives it a harmonious, natural appearance. The Textilene material used is ideally suited to outdoor use. This range too offers seating with aluminium feet or a teak base frame. It comprises sofas in two depths and various modules that can be combined into versatile seating landscapes.

Fabrics without treatment (AGATE - EFESO - ELIDE - LESIA - LINDOS - LIPARI - SAMOS)

These fabrics underline the comfort of the products, as they are comparable to indoor covers in softness and breathability, even though the fibres used are stabilised polypropylene (PP - Agate, Efeso, Elide, Lesia, Lipari, Samos) or polyester (PL - Lindos) for outdoor use. Furniture covered in these fabrics needs more careful maintenance, as the fabrics absorb water, even though the waterproof inner cover does form a certain barrier. Under extreme conditions (heavy and prolonged rain) there is nevertheless a risk of water penetrating the cushion pads.

Fabrics with water-repellent treatment (ECATE - ELCE - EOS - LEILA - LOREO - SILEA)

The water-repellent treatment is a permanent treatment and can only be used on polyester fabrics (PL - Elce, Loreo, Silea) or on acrylic fabrics (PC - Ecate, Eos, Leila). Its greatest advantage is that the fabric fibres become completely impermeable without the appearance, hand, effect and breathability of the fabric being impaired in any way. Because the fabric is water-repellent it does not become damp, but this does not mean that the fabric is impermeable, since the reverse side is not given the waterproof treatment. The acrylic fabrics (PC - Ecate, Eos, Leila) emphasise a softness comparable to that of indoor covers.

Fabrics with water-resistant treatment (ELEO - ELETTO - EPEO - ERIA - EVO)

These fabrics too are stabilised polypropylene for outdoor use. The difference from the untreated fabrics is that these fabrics are given a waterproof treatment on the reverse: a polyurethane film is applied to the back of the fabric, which prevents water from passing through. The visible side becomes damp, while the inner side is protected against the ingress of liquids. Please note that the waterproof fabrics are not 100% impermeable; if the fabrics are exposed to water frequently and for long periods (for example in heavy rainfall), protective tarpaulins should be used to protect the product and to prevent water from entering through the seams and wetting the upholstery. The polyurethane film remains durable even after numerous wash cycles and can therefore be described as a permanent finish.

Waterproof fabrics (ALCEO)

Alceo is a waterproof fabric from the nautical sector with high resistance to weathering, germs, abrasion and stains, which makes it suitable for contract use as well. It is a waterproof fabric that prevents water from penetrating. The textile was developed specifically for outdoor use without particular maintenance effort: a damp sponge is enough to remove stains, and dry dirt can simply be removed with a brush. Alceo is able to retain its original appearance with minimal care and prevents water from penetrating the cushion pads.
